ID(entity), Romania 2024

From the 10th till the 18th of February, our volunteers alongside young people from Romania, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic and North Macedonia took part in an International Training Course program in Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania.

The project aim was to develop an understanding of cultural diversity, recognizing the importance of sensitivity to various cultural backgrounds in youth work.

In the following lines, you can explore the experiences that our volunteers gained through their participation.

Eva:

The project I participated in was amazing, to the point and very organized, something that impressed me compared to previous erasmus experiences.

The first day we dealt with the different cultures (we focused on the countries we were there), the next days we focused on discrimination, identity, prejudice and stereotypes. The way the project was conducted aimed not only to understand the topic in depth, but also to have fun. The UIET organization made sure not only to keep us busy for the scheduled erasmus hours, but also in our free time, they made sure to do various thematic evenings, so that we could all spend time together. (Pizza night, cinema night, valentine’s day, treasure hunting in the city)

Therefore, for me this erasmus will definitely be unforgettable, the people I met were excellent, the experience of the facilitator was obvious and the UIET organization exceeded all my expectations. I returned to Greece with a sense of action and mobility. It is a trip that I would be happy to do again in the future and I hope to meet again with UIET organization.

Finally, I want to thank Greek Youth Mobility (GYM), because they gave me the opportunity to participate and they were also very polite with us and helpful!

Ioanna:

On February 10-18 I travelled in Romania and participated in the Erasmus+ project with the title (ID)entity, an opportunity given to me by the organization “Greek Youth Mobility”. The program was organized by the UIET organization and took place in Odorheiu Secuiesc, a small town in Transylvania. The participating countries were the following: Romania, Italy, Spain, Serbia, Lithuania, Czech Republic and Greece. The Greek team consisted of 4 people.

The topic of the program was stereotypes, social discrimination and prejudice and through the program we had the opportunity to participate in interesting, productive and creative activities and discussions organized by our facilitator, Endy, who had a lot of experience. At the same time, the organizing team made sure to keep us busy with intercultural night, movie and valentine’s night. We also participated in a hidden treasure hunt, getting to know the city better.

My participation in the program is an unforgettable experience that helped me develop and learn. Also, I met so interesting people, visited a different place and got to know the culture of Transylvania, and for these reasons these 9 days passed like 9 hours (or even faster).

Eleni:

Erasmus gave me the opportunity to interact with people from other countries and at the same time to get to know different cultures, languages, religions and the politics of each country.

This exposure fosters understanding, empathy, and respect for different backgrounds, which can help combat racism and promote inclusivity. In my everyday life, this increased cultural awareness and sensitivity would enable me to engage more effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and contribute to creating a more inclusive environment in both personal and professional settings.

Also, I would like to pass on the knowledge I gained to the children I work with every year at the summer camps. This can be achieved through multicultural activities (activities that celebrate different cultures, such as food tastings, traditional games, or art and craft sessions inspired by various cultures), storytelling (experiences of Erasmus), group discussions and community projects (such as volunteering at local shelters or organising events to raise awareness about diversity issues). By incorporating these strategies into camp activities, we can help kids develop a greater appreciation for diversity and learn valuable skills for navigating a multicultural world with empathy and respect.

Regarding the organisation of the program, it was excellent, every day there were all kinds of activities (games, skits, videos, discussions, etc.), the food was very good and the location of the program was amazing in nature. In addition, the two organisations GYM and UIET for Greece and Romania respectively were by our side for any help. My favorite moment from the project, I can say, was when we all wrote down on a piece of paper various ways of marginalization and racism that exist in our country and stuck them on the wall and let time pass for everyone to see what is really happening in each individual country and at that time I realised that most of us have some prejudices and misconceptions about some countries. That is why we must broaden our horizons and our critical ability through such programs.

Thank you so much for this wonderful experience, if you asked me if I would go again, I would say 100%.

Giannis:

It seems to me that a short text is not enough to describe my experience in this training course, however I will try my best!

This particular program was one of the best experiences of my life! Besides the less important fact that I traveled alone abroad for the first time in my life, in this trip I gained experiences and lessons that I would have had a hard time gaining otherwise. Through this program I made friends from all over Europe and came in contact with people I would never have had the chance to meet, an example being my roommate for the 7 days that the project lasted, Hugo, a 32-year-old Spaniard, with whom we matched perfectly from the very first moment.

Finally, through the activities, which at the beginning I doubted if they would be interesting, I got to know myself better and I found new activities that I want to start doing in my everyday life. To sum everything up my first Erasmus+ experience was incredible and I will definitely try to experience something similar in the future!

Vote for Europe, Romania 2023

From the 28th of October till the 5th of November, our volunteers alongside young people from Romania, Spain, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia took part in an International Youth Exchange program in Constanta, Romania.

The aim of the project was to raise awareness of the young people from the European Union’s states regarding the importance of the exercise the right to vote.

In the following lines, you can explore the experiences that our volunteers gained through their participation.

Thanos:

One of the most productive cultural and youth exchange projects I have ever participated in!

Besides the very interesting topic of how to raise awareness regarding democracy within the EU, the main focus of the project was to help each one of us to be more active as an EU citizen and I think this was the key success of the programme. This Erasmus+ experience motivated us to raise our voice and to participate more actively as part of a democratic state of the EU.

Veronica:

The project “Vote for Europe” I participated in was very interesting.

Alongside my team, I discovered so much about Europe that was previously unknown to me. We also had a lot of activities and had to collaborate with people from other countries. There were folks from all over the world, and we had the chance to learn about their cultures. The cultural nights were super cool because we got to experience so many different traditions. We met a group of amazing people and formed friendships that will last forever.

This project was the most suitable one if you want to learn more about the EU.

Antigoni:

Μy participation in the “Vote for Europe” Erasmus+ programme  definitely exceeded all my expectations.

As a European citizen, I am incredibly happy that I had the opportunity to live such an experience. Initially the project’s theme inspired all its participants and progressively the interest in European politics gradually increased thanks to the well-designed daily activities. The project enabled us not only to gain knowledge about the European community to which we belong but also to come into direct contact with other cultures. I profoundly enjoyed the Debate Activity, during which the participants were exposed to opinions that ignited critical thinking and reflection. After all, the right to vote as a European citizen is an issue that concerns all of us.

This is my first time in an Erasmus programme, and I’m excited to say that it’s off to a great start. I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.

Giorgos:

I personally participated for first time in an Erasmus+ at the project “VOTE FOR EUROPE”. We learned about the political voting systems of the other participating countries, including the effects and thoughts that the other participants had. This was drawn from the entire procedure and the results of the last voting processes. We had activities that made us with different ways criticize understand and support our opinion. We had many talks about the importance of voting and how it affects immediately in many ways to the present and the future. I didn’t know at first what to expect but the whole experience convinced me that I was honored by the GYM organisation which gave me this opportunity.

Vasilis:

Constanta’s inherent natural beauty, coupled with its rich historical tapestry, forms an idyllic setting that serves as the perfect backdrop to welcome participants from diverse countries participating in the Erasmus project, aptly titled “Vote for Europe.”

This Erasmus+ project not only imparted valuable lessons in socializing but also fostered strong bonds among individuals from diverse European nationalities. Participants gained profound insights into the intricacies of European elections and the functioning of the parliament, cultivating a deeper understanding of the democratic processes. Additionally, the project served as a platform for sharing knowledge, creating an enriching environment where ideas and perspectives seamlessly intertwine, contributing to a collective pool of wisdom among the participants.

Alexandra:

Had a blast at the “Vote for Europe” Erasmus+ bash in Constanta, Romania! Picture this: exploring EU democracy, decoding it, throwing down some lively debates, and making non-formal education our thing—all for the love of boosting voter engagement.

Why it matters these days? Well, there’s a bit of fatigue with politicians and the voting scene. However, even when elected officials fall short, it doesn’t justify sitting out of the democratic game. For us Euro-enthusiasts, voting serves as our avenue to highlight our concerns in the European Parliament—an assertive way of proving the need for solutions.

Our standout moment? Bringing in a Pakistani buddy and transforming him into the god Eros for our cultural night. Oh, and our homemade tzatziki was a hit—just another day in Erasmus royalty, where learning, collaboration, and tons of laughter unfold.

ArtExpress, Romania 2023

From the 22nd till the 31st of October, our volunteers alongside young people from Romania, Italy and Hungary took part in an International Youth Exchange program in Brebu, Romania.

The aim of the project was to inform the participants the importance of active citizenship through art.

In the following lines, you can explore the experiences that our volunteers gained through their participation.

Ioannis:

I’m so happy that GYM gave me the opportunity to live an Erasmus experience and connect with people all over the world!

At first, I didn’t have many expectations but this project turned out to be one of the best decisions of the year! The programme was true to its objective and succeeded on getting people from different backgrounds together to express through art and non formal education the importance of being an active citizen. In addition the organising of the project was to the point so no one could get excluded and everyone could learn a lot of things on the project’s topic but also explore your inner self.

Last but not least, I’m glad that I had this chance to meet all these beautiful people with Erasmus program that made the program a lifetime experience.

Panagiotis:

Where to even begin? My Erasmus+ adventure was one for the books! It was like an emotional rollercoaster – in the best way possible! Sure, there were ups and downs, but man, did I feel alive. Every day was a new chance to experience something totally different and I was here for all of it.

The hotel we stayed in? It was more than just a place to crash – it was where all the magic happened. We were a bunch of strangers at first, but it didn’t take long before we all clicked. Even with the language barriers, we found our own ways to connect. It’s crazy how laughter and shared experiences can cut through all the noise, you know?

We were like puzzle pieces from different puzzles, but somehow we fit together. The energy was just right. We didn’t need words all the time; sometimes a high-five, a smile, or just chilling together was enough. It’s wild to think about how we’re all from different corners of the world but when it comes down to it, we’re all not that different. We’re into a lot of the same stuff and have the same worries and hopes.

All in all, this Erasmus+ project was a blast – a proper mix of learning, fun, and new friendships that feel like they’ll last a lifetime.

Elena:

This Erasmus+ project was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!

First of all, when I applied to take part in the ArtExpress project I did not have high expectations. I thought we would just discuss issues we already know about and we would not connect with people on a personal level. However, that was not at all what happened. In this project I connected with so many people from all around the world, I felt very included and, because of the activities we did, I learnt how to overcome my fears. These activities really encouraged us to express ourselves and be more creative. I also learnt how to be more active in my community and help other people in need.

All in all, I am grateful I was given this opportunity and I would definitely recommend it to other young people who want to learn more about themselves and the world.

Ioanna:

Participating in an Erasmus Plus project was a life-changing experience.

It provided me with the unique opportunity to collaborate with people from all over the world and taught me to appreciate different perspectives and find common ground even in the face of language and cultural barriers. Over the course of the project I took part in a diverve range of activities, from academic research to community outreach, which not only enhanced my knowledge but also honed my interpersonal and communication skills.

My Erasmus Plus journey has left an indelible mark on my personal and academic growth, and I am grateful for the lasting friendships and memories it bestowed upon me!

George:

Participating in the Erasmus+ Exchange Project Art Express in Romania was one very rich experience which I will keep with me for a long time!

We took part in various activities focused on trust building and teamwork through non-verbal communication and art. I consider these activities to be one very simple and quick way to overcome social barriers, express yourself and develop a deeper understanding with people that you had known for only a few days. Creating this safe space as a group encourages everyone to participate, try and stretch their comfort zone and rip the benefits of this procedure: self-confidence, fulfilment, empowerment. We had the opportunity to participate in debates where we overcame the fear of speaking in front of an audience, we learned how to argue in a democratic and respectful way and broadened our views by listening to the opinions of our fellow participants. Moreover, as a Greek team, we did something special for our cultural night which I am proud of. We recreated a ‘symposium’ with varied important Greek persons and presented it to everybody as a theatrical play. It was a collaborative effort, made in one day, which, I believe, pushed every one of us to leave their comfort zone and generated a strong supportive bond between us.

Finally, the opportunity for meaningful conversations with different people, coming from diverse backgrounds is priceless. In these moments I feel I understand myself through others and I blossom out.

Triantafyllos:

My experience in this particular program was dreamlike!

I first met new people and learned a lot from the program about human rights. All the organizers were very nice and friendly and I will really miss them. It was a dreamlike experience and every time I think about what I experienced I think I saw a dream!

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to participate in this fantastic program!

Dimitra:

I always thought that I had a wide and bright imagination, but for once I was proved wrong. I could never imagine that I would gain so many and unbelievable experiences. I could never imagine that I could get that close with people in such a short time period. I could never imagine that I would get so many chances to make my creativity a reality. Leaving Brebu, Romania I was full of emotions and memories. Every day was a glimpse of energy and happiness. Erasmus+ was a great opportunity for me to feel and experience beautiful things with beautiful people.

In the 8 days that we were there every morning I would wake up and get out of my room heading for breakfast. In my way to the breakfast area, I would hear someone saying, “Good morning, Dimitra” and every time I turned my head around to see who it was, I would face a different smiling person than the previous day. I can’t even describe with words how wholesome it felt to be among 38 loving people that were treating each other as if we were a family.

“Remember to let her into your heart” is a verse of the Beatle’s song “Jude”. I think that’s the best way to illustrate the most important thing that I learnt in these 8 days of the program. I tried how it is to express my feelings and thoughts. I let people see who I really am and they, in return, filled me with love. I understood the deepest meaning of communication where words were not always necessary. People’s gaze was enough for someone to acknowledge what they wanted to say. Seeing through everyone’s eyes I truly understood that we are all humans. Equally gorgeous creatures, just with different characteristics.

Stavroula:

“Sharing is Caring” is what I’ll mostly keep from this big journey! I could never imagine this common sense has such an actual meaning. The benefits of such an experience cannot even be counted! I don’t even know from where I should even continue. So, right now I feel more able than before to actually listen and understand people and I know how to make someone happy with little things. It’s also crazy how 40 completely different people cooperated and made the best for not only each other’s day but somehow they changed a little bit their lives.

Being there was the perfect chance to over pass my self, to get out of my comfort zone and let myself free to feel and experience. I’m so grateful this opportunity had be given to me and I’m really looking forward to more.

Spyridoula:

What an amazing experience! It’s truly fascinating how so many young people from all over the world, with different backgrounds can connect in such a short period of time and work together to create something beautiful for our community.

These 8 days were filled with fun and creative activities, aimed at promoting active citizenship through art. Through these activities we exchanged ideas, we expressed ourselves through nonverbal communication and we focused on personal growth.

The program did not lack the get to know each other activities, that brought us closer to each other, as well as the cultural nights, where each country had the opportunity to share with the other participants its culture, through fun activities like games and quizzes. In this way we learned a lot about each other’s traditions, while having a good time and creating bonding experiences.

I feel that this program changed the way I see my everyday life and made me want to participate more in social issues. Moreover, it made me realize the importance of meaningful human relationships, since during these 8 days, we developed very deep connections between us. I’m so grateful that I got to live this life changing experience, create long lasting friendships all over the world and come home with hope for the future!

Marianna:

What an extraordinary experience!

The venue, the people, the nature! Everything was perfect! This was my first Erasmus+ program and I feel grateful to have been a part of it. It was literally the best choice I could ever make! The week we spent together was unforgettable. We had a lot of time to get to know each other, even though it really felt like we ve been already friends for years! The outdoor activities, like hiking, were unique as the nature around us was beautiful.

Today, I am delighted to tell you that each of us has a second home in many cities of the world. I’d gladly do everything again!

Nikolas:

This opportunity I was given made me reconsider a lot in terms of the way I see the world and people.

The project made me understand that making a person happy is something much simpler than what I had in mind even if they are from the other side of the world. I evolved as a person, I feel like I became a better person and I have to say a huge thank you to the people who organized it and how they motivated me to keep looking for similar projects!
